Who is Gerdus Bronn
Gerdus Bronn is an up and coming watercolorist
Gerdus studied art at the Pretoria Art Ballet and Music School and then furthered his studies at the Pretoria Technikon in art and finally specializing in ceramics
While he studied and after his studies he made paintings in both watercolor and oils to pay for his studies. He did a few one man exhibitions.
Art and painting was always in the genes, he is related to Zakkie Ellof through his grandmother who is the sister of Zakkie Ellof.
After school Gerdus wanted to study art and persue a life as an artist.
But after a visit to his famed uncle he also visited the well known potter Esias Bosch and was immediately drawn to the medium of clay and furthered his studies in ceramics and opened his own studio where he made pots for a living for most of his adult life.
Gerdus and Annalie's History
Gerdus matriculated in fine arts with distinction at the Pretoria Art Ballet and Music school that later became the Pro Arte School.
Gerdus finished his studies at the Pretoria Technikon and he walked away with a Diploma in Ceramic Design. He was greatly influenced during that time to do wood firing and dig up his own clays and make his own glazes. This was an exciting time with often disastrous results. Kilns did not always reach temperatures and the pots had some freaky effects on them due to the wood and later oil fires. He loved the chance effects of reducing a glaze and discovering chance colors on the glazing surface.
Gerdus met and fell in love with Annalie, after two weeks he asked her to marry him and three months later they were married. This was another exciting epoch with painting and making pots. He then started with jewellery designing and used the materials around him such as warthog tusks and leather. He then started doing pyrography and made some stunning drawings on leather.
Gerdus and Annalie moved to Doornrandjes and set up a pottery studio there. Here is where their two kids were born. Geran and Anja. The pottery grew and Gerdus experimented a lot with different techniques such as silkcreening on tiles and using metallic lusters. His work was so popular that he was invited to participate in the first trade show to the Emirates and he opened a showroom in Dubai. But one thing led to another and he and Annalie became rockhounds and they started trading in rocks and minerals. This was another exciting time in their lives that took them to the furthest corners of the globe.
This is the year that Gerdus and Annalie decided to get back to his first love and that is watercolors. He is building up his collection and getting back up to speed with all the new techniques, but nothing can beat raw talent. The focus is on developing art for the modern interior and framing it in new and exciting ways. He plans to become globally known and market his work all over the globe.
